Larry:
I just wanted to tell you how your fine job of sharpening my son's Ka-Bar saved me from a thorny situation!
I got up and went fishing the other day. After a fairly long and exciting fight, I got my second bass of the day into the boat. I"d guess he'd go 7-1/2 pounds. I was in the process of getting the lure out of his mouth when he started having a conniption fit and one of the hooks went into my left wrist, well up past the first barb.
Try as I might, I could not free the fish or my wrist from the treble hooks. I scrounged through my tackle box and got my only knife in my possession to begin surgery, the Ka-Bar (a.k.a. Marine Fighting Knife). It is not the most dainty instrument one might wish to have at such a time but I had no choice. By elongating the punctures in the fishes mouth, I got him off the lure quickly and chunked him back into the lake.
I was able to lay the site on my wrist open to a very minimum, exposing a tendon while avoiding a nearby artery and vein. That Super Sharp Ka-Bar made a quick work of a tedious, difficult job. I was able to do precise cuts without having to make long or deep incisions or have to "saw" the incisions.
I can't begin to tell you just how happy I was to have such a well-sharpened tool in my hand. It would have been much more painful to have pressed it into service in its former condition.
Back in May, my daughter bought me some lures and a first aid kit for my tackle box, so, thanks to her, I had enough accouterments to sterilize the knife, the wound and do an adequate job of bandaging.
I fished for an other hour and a half, then I went to the local out-patient clinic for a tetanous shot. The doctor inspected my work and noted that since the two incisions were such short clean cuts, stitches were not needed.
The next place I went was the hardwear store, where I bought a nice set of little light weight Exact-o hobby knives and immediately put them in my tackle box, should anything like this happen again.
However, I'll never go afield without that Ka-Bar. Thank you so very much! You truly are an accomplished craftsman, besides being a gentleman and a scholar!
